43 locks, 47 miles, around 35 hours

Open farmland, deep cuttings and pretty, unspoilt villages combine to make cruising this canal a pleasure. The canal starts at Great Haywood and finishes at Stourport Basin – itself an attraction.

At Stourport you can descend through two locks onto the River Severn – river work being a new experience for many.

Some of the many attractions:

  • Stourport – the basins & the famous Tontine Hotel
  • The Bratch – a very unusual staircase of three locks
  • Penkridge – a vast open and indoor market on Wednesdays and Saturdays

To go to Stourport and back will take two weeks. It’s worth it. But if you are restricted to one week then any length of the Staffs & Worcs will be enjoyable
